El Trompo Museum x Wild Immersion — Concept Design for Immersive Environmental Education

Concept Design for Immersive Environmental Education

On August 21st, El Trompo, Museo Interactivo Tijuana. , one of Mexico’s most respected cultural institutions for children and families, launched two new concept design immersive experiences in partnership with Wild Immersion . The goal? To offer new, emotionally engaging ways to educate children about biodiversity, ecosystems, and the importance of environmental protection.

This collaboration is part of El Trompo’s broader mission: providing experiences that are both playful and meaningful. For Wild Immersion, it’s a unique opportunity to bring its immersive tools into a space where education, creativity, and curiosity naturally come together.

Two immersive formats: where learning meets emotion

At El Trompo, children now engage with nature through two innovative formats:

  • 🎥 Virtual Reality — Wild World With 15 VR headsets, children and families are immersed in the heart of real natural ecosystems filmed around the world. They observe animals in their actual habitats, moving freely and interacting in a way that no zoo or textbook can offer. From savannah elephants to rainforest primates, the experience broadens horizons while building empathy for life on Earth.
  • 🎨 Drawing Experience — Western Universe Children draw animals on special coloring sheets, each one accompanied by educational facts and species descriptions. In this playful corner of the museum, children create their own animal drawings, scan them, and watch them come to life on screen. Suddenly, their wolves, foxes or deer roam a vast animated landscape.  A blend of imagination and interactivity that leaves a lasting impression.

Together, these experiences offer an inclusive, hands-on approach to learning, perfectly aligned with museum pedagogy.

Immersive Drawing & VR Experience

📊 What visitors say: learning that resonates

A feedback survey conducted with 14 visitors shows just how impactful the experience has been:

  • 100% would return for new content
  • 93% rated the VR film 9 or 10 out of 10
  • 85% said they learned more about biodiversity
  • 64% had never tried VR before

“It was excellent to see all ecosystems.” “I loved the space, the time, and the drawings.” “More Mexican species next time, please!”

For institutions, these results confirm that immersive storytelling is a powerful tool — not just for entertainment, but for education and retention.

🌎 A growing network in Latin America

With the addition of El Trompo, Wild Immersion now collaborates with five long-term partners across Latin America, confirming the region’s leading role in reimagining conservation education.

From Brazil to Mexico, museums are embracing immersive technologies as a way to connect meaningfully with their audiences, while reinforcing their social and environmental missions.

🙏 A message of thanks

“I’m happy to continue shaping new generations—from founding Cinema Planeta, Mexico’s International Film and Environment Festival, to my work today with Wild Immersion. The environmental education promoted through audiovisual and cinematic content is very powerful and transformative, and thanks to one of Mexico’s leading children’s museums, this continues to be possible. We are proud to collaborate with El Trompo and deeply grateful for the trust they have placed in us.” — Gustavo M. Ballesté , Wild Immersion America.
