The Universum Science Museum, part of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), invites visitors of all ages to explore the INVERNALIS exhibition, an immersive journey into the wonders of winter. Designed to transform the chill of the season into an opportunity for discovery, INVERNALIS draws inspiration from a Spanish wordplay combining “invierno” (winter), “Universum,” and the suffix “nalis.” This unique name evokes a magical experience that celebrates both knowledge and nature.
A full immersion into winter biodiversity in INVERNALIS Exhibition at UNAM
The INVERNALIS exhibition showcases the wonders of winter life. Visitors explore exhibits like “Treasures: Fossils and Minerals of Mexico” and “Dinosaurs Among Us.” They also learn about “The Biological Clock.” The highlight is the 360° film “Facing Winter” by Wild Immersion. This film takes viewers to temperate and polar regions where various animals face the cold. Deer, bears, squirrels, foxes, wolves, and bison adapt to survive. “Facing Winter” uses impressive visuals to show their survival tactics, now threatened by climate change. The goal is to increase public awareness of environmental challenges.
An immersive experience for all ages
Inside the pavilion, the journey starts with an introductory film and a short talk. These set the stage for discussing biodiversity and conservation challenges. The Interactive Drawings experience is a hit with children. It lets them animate their drawings and explore the natural world. Toward the exhibition’s end, visitors join Wild Quest. This augmented reality treasure hunt uses smartphones to scan for animal markers. They reveal 3D models and prompt educational questions. It’s an interactive adventure that educates and engages.
Unforgettable and immersive seasons at UNAM
Since the launch of immersive experiences at the UNAM Pavilion in April 2023, the exhibition has enthralled a vast number of visitors by providing an intriguing mix of fun and learning. This winter, UNAM has delivered more than a typical exhibit; INVERNALIS is not just a display, it is an invitation to forge a connection with nature and grasp the fragile equilibrium of life in our evolving planet.
